The testing for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons PAHs has been mandatorily in voluntary German GS Mark certification from April, 2008. On August 04th, 2014, the committee for product safety determined the requirements for the testing for PAH in the frame of the award of a GS-mark as specification according to § 21, subsection 1 no. 3 of the German Product Safety Act. The testing for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons PAHs became mandatory in voluntary German GS Mark certification. Table A about new PAHs testing certification schedule.

Table A

GS-Mark-Certificate, issued after July 1st, 2015Refer to exception provision

Mandatory application about new PAHs of this GS-specification should be met before issuing of certificate.

GS-Mark-Certificate, issued before July 1st, 2015

For existing GS-Mark-Certificates remain valid, the risk evaluation and PAHs testing for related products should be done before next factory inspection, the date should not be late than 30th June, 2016.

New issuing of existing GS-Mark-Certificates exception provision
Includes already initiated processes that will be finalized after July 1st, 2015

For changing of the company name, the PAHs testing should be done before next factory inspection, no later than 30th June, 2016.

The same applies if the owner of the GS-Mark-Certificate is changed, the PAHs testing should be done before next factory inspection, no later than 30th June, 2016.

The new requirement has to be applied mandatorily from July 1st, 2015. The document ZEK 01.4-08 will lose its validity as of Jun 30th, 2015. Most of the products which applied for GS certification will be affected due to new testing requirement of PAHs, such as electronic equipment, mechanical products, toys and so on. The new critical values for PAH in materials of products are presented in Table B.
